Newspaper literature is a link in the great chain of rairucles, and every support shoulci be given tonewspapers. The editors of these papers must have an enormous task. It is not the writing of the leading article itself, but the obligtaion to write.that article every week, whcntlier inclincd or not, in sickness or in health, in affliction or disease of the mind ; winter and Bumrner, year after year tied ilown to the task, rcmaining in one spot. It is sóinothing like the walking of a thousand miles in a thousand liours. I have a fellovv feeling, fori knowhow a perodical will ivear down one's esislence. In itself, it appears nolhing. Tlie labor ia not manifest nor Is it severe - it is coniinual attentioii which it re(juires. Your lile becomes, as it were, the publication. One week is no sooner correlod and printer!, than on comes another. It is the stone ol rfisyplius an endless repetition oftoil, a constant weight upon the mind, a continual vvearing upon the intellect and i its - demandn all the exertion of your faculties, at the same time yon are compelled to do the severest drudgery. To write for a paper is very vvell, but to odit one, is slavery.
