-Some of the Philadelphinns have hadtheir sympathies largely nrous?i in behnlfofthip land of renegades. The papers give ihe following account of ihc speech of a Presbyterjan clergyman nZ a Texas meeting. The reverend gentleman had better join the kindren! spirits whom he eulogizos. He seems to be betier qualified for a pro fessir ,.f "shooting" than oi'Christianity. Ou Saturday, there wrsn very large meeting in 'he State House yard; drawn thither by a cali appealing to ihe friénds of the Texian Republic. - 01 neer b. &c. ns usual oí such occasions.' were appoinred, and the meeting was addressed by Ge. .erais, Colone's, and. auiong others. the Rev. Mr. McCalla. who. ti quote the language of the reporter, 'made an exceedinglv neat and witty speech.' He said it was not usual for clergymen to appear before such nssemblics, but as he had ncyar compromised himselfto the doctrine of neutrality. he woulJ embrace every oppur'.unity that Providence afibrded him of raising bis voice in favor of Texas. He spoke in high tenns of the Texian people, representinir thsm as frank and generous in their deportrnent. and urfied the young men of this country to emiprate to that, as it is, hc said, 'oneof the most fertile and promising regions Í have ever visited.' The country, he added. abounds in game of all kinds, and y n will rind abundant employment for all the rifles and muskets you rnay takc wih you. Besides. when you gut there. you will. no doubt, be called uj)on to go still larther South. There aro niany colleges, and other institutions of learning in Mexico, which are richly endowed, but sadly in want of professors. Go then to these; answer the cali that Mexico mnkes upon you. and instruct their rising populntion - or. in other words, tro teach the younc; idea of that country, 'hoio to shoot!' - Mr McCalla. spoke in the same vein for about an hour, and was warmly appluuded by the meeting.
