-One of the moet easy, the mostcommon, most perfecily foolish things in the world. is to quarrcl, no matter with whom, man. wonian or child; or upon wliat prctcncc, provocntion, or occasion whatsoevcr. There is no kind ol necessity in it, no nianner of use in it. and no species or degree of benefit to be gained by if and yet strange as the fact may be, theologians quarrel, and politicians. lawyers, doctors, and pnnces quarrel, the Church quarrels; natione and tribes, and corporations, men. women and children, doge and cate, birds and beasta, quarrel about all manner of things, and on all mannner ot occasions. If there is any in the world that will makc a man feel bad. except pinching 113 fingers tn the crack of a door, it is unquostionably n quarrel. Jio man ever faile to th"nk es of himself after than he did before one; it degrades hlm in his own eyes and in the eyes of Mhers, and, what is worse. blunts his sens'ibility to disgrace on the one hand, and increasea the wver of passionate irritabiliiy on the other.- I he truth is, the more quietly and peaceably we jet on the better; the better for ourselves, the etter our ncigiiliors. In nine cases out of en, the wisest course is, if a man cheata you, to luir dealing with him; if he be abusive. qui his compüny; if he standers you, takecare to live so hat nohody will blieve him. No matter who he s or how he inisuses you, the wisest way is just to et him alone; for there ïe nothing better thun his cool calm quiei way of dealing with the vronga we meet with.
