Hajjlky, May 30th 1842.Mkssrs. Editors:- Wc have held a protractcd ablition meeting n our town of late, which wns addressed principally by the Rev. Ebenezcr Mc Downl.of Gencsee county, and at the close ofihe meeting we presen ted the following preaniblcand constitution for subscription. Wliercas God has made of one blood all nations of men to dweil on all the face of the earth, and has given them the power of choice, and whercne the Declaration of American Independence declares that all men are createdfree and equal.and are ondowed vvith the individual right of life, liberty, and the pnrsuit of happiness, nud whereaa the word of God requires us to do unto men as we would that they should do unto us.and whercas the Institution of American Slavery by depriving milljons of our fellow beings of one hlood with us, ofall thoss glorious privileges for which our fathers bied and which we so dearly prizetlirectly viólales the wo rd of God, and is a gross libel on our Declaration of Indepehderice. We whose names are hereunto subscribed do pledge ourselves to vse all lawful and honorable means to effect the Aboluion of Slavery in this our otherwise liappj' land. Our annual meetings are to bc held on the 4th day of July ín each year; our oilicers consist of a President. Vicc Secretnry, Trcasurer and five Counsellors to be chosen annually. The grea test nurnber of votes ever polled in our to-.vnis eighty five.s Whe have thirty eight subscribers to oui Constution. last lall we polled twelve votes.
