The nnniversary of our nafion's birth day was celebrated in our village on the 'g'orious Founh,' in a manner that was highly commendable fo the jreat majurity of the cittzens who were" in attèndance. There was nothing like the drunkenness and debauchory, profanityand crime,, so prevalenr on thcsd occasions in by-gone days. The Saóbath School and Washmgtonian Tempcrnnce Sodety united. An address advocating entire abstinencc frum all that can inioxicaie wis doüvered l)y Mr. Joseph Brown of our villige. It was a rich production, and we belicve nve perfeót satisfaction. The singing of temperance odes was truly cheering - and the voluntary speeches were of an excellent characier, f we except their want of relerence to the claims o( the onpressed, which can be so appropriately refcrred to on such occasions.
