At a meeting of the School Insp'ectofs oí" the Township of Ann Arbor, the ibllowhig resolntion was adopled: Resolved, That before proceodinrr to pxamine any candidute or tenching primary schools in regard to leariiing &, abiTity, testfmonials of moral characier irom those acquainted with him, eithur written or verbal bc required. We fully approve the course of the board on this subject, and we hope it may amount to eomething more tlian a mere formality. The necessily of a higher standard of moral as well as of intellectual qujlifications of teachers, is feit in society. The School teacher should be unexceptionable in his moráis. He wlio tipples a little, or swears a little, or who is so far advanced above vulgar prejudices that he cannot condescend to pay a decent external respect to the Sabbath, or to the laws and religious institutions of his country, should not be licensed to Incúlcate his vicious sentiments and practices upon the young. A common ecliool teacher, as well as the rehgious ! tor, should be in all thmgs be a pattern to tliose ' xinder his care. The personal character of lhe teacher wijl have a grealer or less ' ence upon his scliolars; and to set an immoral or vicious person over a company of imitative and susceptible minds, is as absurd as it would be to make the wolf the guardián and ' er of the sheep. The Inspectors will meet to examine teachers at Mr. Sawyers office Saturday, June 6.
