We cut the following statistics of these Islands from a New York paper. ' What a sndden progrese from the most degraded Hcathenism, to civilization, knowledge, and national independerse! So much for the bleseed influences of Christianity. "The last year has witnessed the receplion of an ambassador from that penple by our own Government and that ofGroat Britaiii, and the recognilion of the independence of the Hawaiian Islanda. In thoso Islands there are now2I Churches with 19.000 nicmbers, of whom 2443 have been received durinnr the present year. JNine Houses of wroTShip have been erected, six of them of substanlial atone. 213 Common Schools have been e.=tabüshed at which altend 15,563 scholars; 26 bookhave ben printed in the native langnage, of which 120,000 copies have been pnnted, and moro than 13,000,eO0 nf pacres- 3,000,000 of which have been pair! for by the Americsn Tract and Bible Societies. The average attendance pon all the places of worship is 23,000, nnd the who'e niimber of membera of the Clnirch from the first is 25,454- Such were the reporte made in May, 1842, and accounts of powerful revivals have eince been received."
