A Liiberty Convention for the fifth Senatorial District, consisting of the counties of St. Joseph, Cass, Berrien, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Birry, Allegan, Ottawa, Kent and Oceana, will be held at the Court House ín Kálamazoo, Thursday and Friday the 2Ld and L3rl of June, commencing at 1 o'colck, P. M. of thefirstday. The business to be transacted by the Convenlion will be the nomination of a Liberty candidate for the State Senate to be supported at the ensuiug e'ection, for which purpose each county wil! be entitlcd to twice the number of delogates of its representativea j in the legislatnre. The conveniïbn is not only intended to select a cnndidate for the office of Senator, bot lo bnng together as large a concoursë of onr fellow citizens as practicable, wiih a view of bcfore them the principies upon which weoperatefor the overthrow of the tremendous slave monopoly tiiat controls the deslinies of this Republic, and rules with an iron hand the reat mass of American people. ït has been truly said that "A Nation may lose its liberties in a day and not miss them a century.'' To avoid euch a ca':astfophe being insidiously and irretrievably fasténed opon us, Iet us arouse to action, and with a united exertion resort to constitutional and lawful means to put down the ruling1 power in Government that is wieldiug the sceptre with despotic sway, for the benefit of 250,000 slaveholders by a destruction of inalienable and constitutionn] rights, ere it be too late. We therefore rospectfully solicit a jreneral attendance without distinctionof sex. Dr. BrMENTnnd the other eminent speakers ai e expected to be present and address theaiidience. Arrangemer.ts will bc made by the citizens of Kalarr-azoo nnd vicinity for the accommodation of those coming from a dislance toattend the convention.
