Besides tlie 'Address to John Tyler," on "Addross io the Slaves" was also adop:ed, ndvising ihem of the eff)rts making at tl:e Norlh for their rtscne, and recomniendinj to them to co-operate 'in their liberty by every proper and peaceable means. A Declaration was read and adopted by the Convention, declaring solemnly, tint they will nol be holden by any pcition of the Constimtion or laoa of the land which contravene the laws of God, or thedictates of consciencebut in these thinp-s they are not subject to its autliority, and will not oboy its oommands. Some siveeping resolutions against all existinif Ch'istian organiza'ions, the clergy, and the clerical office were offored but vvcre laid on the tuble.
