If a Methodist in th Norlh should wiihhpld from hij poor brother his woges for one !oy"s labor, lie woulil beexpelled from the ehurcl; nnd yet Methodists n the South cotnpel their poor brnthren to work for them all their liretime without wages, and Dr. Bond conlends that by so doing they do not forfci their right to membership. If a Methodist, North or South, wilu'ly ne glects lo altend class for a few weeks, he is liable to liave his name erased from the church record;but slaveholders raay keep whole plantations of men nnd wointn from ever golng fo cla.s, or to any other meeting, and yet refain I iheir standing ir) the church. The chirch setys that in church trials 'witness from without' the church 'shall not be rejecled;' and yet she does rejf-ct as wimesses o lnrge class of our mèmbers. If a Met'íodisl at the North should strike his neighbor, ho wever much he might be insultcd, he would be dealt with; but Methodists in the South claim the right, and often excreise it, of applying the raw-hide to the naked backs of men and women in the chnrch, merely for not doing as tbey wish them lo.
