-A correspondent of the Sirmalo. Jjoerty compln.nsof colored child.en being prohibited, by tl.e Committee of arrono-ements trom walking in the procession at Detroit on the 4th mstant. The editora of the Signal thmk it was wrong. We do not presume to decide upon the right or wrong of the matter, bot would remitid the editors of the Signal thütthe committee had a good precedent for tf.eir guide. During the last wintor two nccredited delégales from Wayne County to a Oonvenlion for the nomination of State Ofncers were denied the privilege of votin because their complexions were a shade dárker than the editors of the Signal. Was not Ihis a good precedent- Mich. Argns. There are several material errors in this statement. 1. There were no accredited colored delegates from Wayne County o this State Convention. 2. No perpon was denied the privilege of voting, or was objected to on account of his complexion. The f.tcts were these: twelve delégales were appointed from Wayne Coanty, but only 8 or 10 (we forget which) were present.-. A motion was made that the vacancy be filled by the Crmvention. Two colored gentlemen from Detroit were nominated to fill vacancies, but were objected to, not on account of their color, but breause they were not legal votei-8. It was contended that there was no more propriety in appointing them members of a nominal ing convention than there would ie in filling the vacancy with minors. The subect had never come up before, and was new to most of the Convention. Their nomination was rejected by only one mnjority, and at the evening meeting, the decisión was reversed, and the colored gentlemen were admitted as members of he Convention by a unanimous vote. No objection was made on account of color; consequenl ly, "this was not a good precedent" for excluding the colored children of Detroit from the festivilies of the Fonrth of July. Wül the Argus please correct his statement of facts?
