Messrs. Editors: - A Liberty celebration was held at Scboolcraft on the 4th of July. - The officers of the day, were, President, Rev. Wm. Taylor: Vice President?, Rev. George Stanley, Rev. Amos B. Cobb, Judge L. F. Stevens, and C. Gurney Esq. Marshal, Asa Proctor: Assistants, Asa B. Brown, Jonas Allen, E. A. Simmons and F. W. Hatch.- The procession was formed at the Baptist meeting house, and marched to the Island or Grove adjoining the village, where a stand and seats had been previously prepared for the occasion. The exercises were opening prayer by Rev. George Stanley, rea ding Declaralion of Indepenc'ence by Rev. Mr. Eaton, Address by S. J. M. Hammond Esq., Address by Dr. R. B. Bement, and closmg prayer by Rev. Amos B. Cobb. The performance was also intcsperscd with the approp?iate music. At the close of the exercises, those in attendance were formed into procession in the sanie order in which they carne, and marched to a tnblo at which they were 6eated, and partook of a dinner prcparofl for the occasion. It is gcnerally admitted that tho celebration was well conducted. It passed off without the least disturbance, though an attempt W3S made to that effect by a person who was said to be armed with pistols, exhibiting a flag by the side of the procession as it marched, with a negroe's head and shculders painled upon il; but it proved a perfect abortion, as a feelingprevadeu the great mnss of those assembled (o trcat il wil!) that iletit contempt which it deservod : no ore objected to that porlion of the professed Óemñcracy who were at the expense of prppnn'nof árt'd Ihe flag having the ful] credit for that part of the performance. The bearer of tlie flag, bei:ig forsaken by his friends, a rcspectable colored man, recently firm the Soutli took compnssion on him, aud cheered him up by lid ing at his side. The celebration upon the whole went off better than was anticipatcd by its friends. Tho exertion made in getting up Vhe free dinner, and making other preparations required for the occasion, connected witli the course pursued by the opposition, all tended to produce the desired result. The table was furnisheil so as to accommodato 500 persons at once, there werr as mnny partoot of the diur.cr as could be seatcdtwice at the tabfe, which eowld mt have beert more thar two-thirds of those in atlendanrc, so that the whole nnmber coufd have varied but little from 1500.
