He was one of iho rstwho awthe neccasity of makin Rohlical nominations, in order to secure efficiënt pol.ncal action against slavery, and he í.as since l'eely avowed and acted out his convictions. He was a delégate to the first Liberty Convention, Whicli was held in 1840, and we well remember the undoub.ing fflith and confidonce with whi-h he pred.eted the final success and happy resul ts of the movemem. At the election for Governor " 1841; he wasselected by his anti-slavery felow citizens as iheir Dandidnie, and would. perlmps, liave been in a similar position at the prerent üme, had he not expresscd a wish that our noble and gifted foüow citizen, Jmks G. Birney should bo the carididaie ol the Liberty party. But his t.enevolenre was not confined to a single depnrtment of acüon. The Temperancc cause, the Bible cause, and the extensión of genmncpIety, wcre objects which ever found in him a sympathi.ing friend.
