The political condition of thts State very much resembles that of Michigan. The Democrats are largely in the ascendency, and arelikely to remoifi so, and unless theyfall to pieces from the weight of their sins, while the VVhigs sink a Jittle lower every election, nnd the star of Liberty ís seen rising higher and higher above the horizon. The population are enterprising aad moral- just the ciiaracteristics of a peopie vvho will tnaintain their riphts.The Whigs have been trying all their "more favorable" signs, but that kind of Free Masonry does not work any longer. The Standard which, b}r the way has been improved, and enlarged, sums up matters thus: THE ELECTIONS. "These have resulted nobly for Liberty. - Our vote in Maine will not. be fur from6,2OO; vvhich is again of over 5o per cent on the vote of last year, and besides, toe have spoilcd as many more for whig or demoa'atic purposes. Those parties ma ƒ safely Teckon a loss of 12,000 votes in Maine. Little effort was made by the friends of Liberty. We have liad no regular agent in ihe field, and but little occasional labor of that kind. ín some sections, Qas returns show, abolhionists were active; in others little was done. Bui the resalt is cheering1, noble. The destiny of the Liberty party, at least in the minds of many ofits strongest opposers. is now certaln, WE SHALL SUCCEED. It was alvvays hard work to cast out devild, and the devil of "slavery ín our political instiiutions will not becasily expelled. We claim thrce long, hearty cheers for Maine, by every enemy of slavery in the land. Let thom be heard in the land of chains and whips. Theie is a power in the freeman's ballot that grates horribly on the ears of despots.An important lesson has oeen learned the past year.
