The friends of Liberty of Ionia county met according to previous noiice at Lyons and orgnmzed by choosing Nathnniel Session, chairman and Chauncey Reynolds Secretary. Prayer by Eider J. A. Reynolds. The object of the meeting beingr then briefly stated by Henry Bartow Eq., appropria'e remarks relative to human rig-ht nnñ universal v.u.,y ...„.., mnj, i,y win;am l?.-rto.f Ecg. and Rev. L. flï. S. Smith. On mot ion being made and seconded it was voted tíiat a committee of three be appointed lo draft resolutions expressive of the sese of tlif meeting. Rev. L. M. S. Smith, Chaunoey Reynolds, and Preston Stevens, Etq. were appoiuted saitl Committee. It was also voted ïo appoint a committee of three to select a snitabie person for candidate for tiie office of Represent tive to the State Legislature for the countis of Kent, Ottawa, Ionia, fcc.nt the entoiing election. Nathaniel Session, Nelsn Thomas, Rev. L. M. S. Smith, were appointed eaid commit tee. Then adjourned for one hour. Met again and the committee on nominations reported the name of Hb.nry Bartow Eq. for Representative which report was accepted and unanmously adopitd. The committee on resolutions then reporterl the following which were separalely discussod and were adopted. Resolved, That bkvery ns it exists m the United States is a great moral and political evil, which demands the uniled efibrts of humanity for its entir and immediate extinction. Resolved, That this hydra-headed monster is a leech opon the body politie - drawing the life-blood from the heart of onr country - poisoning the the very fouutain of natiunal lib erty. " Resolved, That tñe Whig and Democratie partieshave both proved recreant tothe cause of human hberfy - as naiional partiesthey are opposed to universal suffrnge. And are ever ready to bow tlie knee to Southern Slavery to secure the votes of Slaveholders. Therefore, Resolved. That as men, as pa riote, and os Christians, we Teel ourselves compelled to come out from among tbem - and we believe it is the duty of' every mnn to withhold his support from any canclidate who will not resist to the last ihe encroachments of slavery. Whereas, abolitionists have repeatedly endeavored to effect their purposes of doing something for the abol ilion of slavery by voting wilfa and supporting men of both par ties who wei e supposed to be the most fa vorable; And whereas in almost every in stance they have been disappointed, therefore, Resolved, That we have no hope of accomplishing any good for the slave by thi cours- experience having proved that men electco by Whig and Democratie votes will fee! themselves irnpelled to go with their reipediv9 parties even at the sacrifice of their anti6lavery principies. Resolved, That we henriily concur in the nomination of Jambs G. Birney, the profound Jurist- the high tninded, consistent and selfdeDying friend of humanity, to the office ofPresident of the United State, ond do here i by pledge ourselves to give him our support. Resolved, That believing as we do it is our duty to carry our principies to the po'ls - we are ready to do it throughout, and we therefore cordiaJly spprove and will earnestly support James G. Birnby, of Saginaw, nnd LüTHER F. STKVKNS, of Kaliimnzoo as OUr candidates for the offices of Governor and Lieutenant Governor. Resolved, Tliat in Thomas Morris we ree ognize an nble statesmen nnd a fast friend of humnn liberty, and one altogether worthy of our politicol support. Resolved, That we will cordially support R. B. Bkmejtt, of Culhoun as our Representa - tive to Congress and J. P. Marsh, as a senator to our State Legislaiure for this District. Rpsolved Tlial in Henry Bartow, our candtdate for Represent at i ve, wo can assure the clectirs of the Grand River District, they have a lonc:, tried and faithful friend of liberty - a talented farmer, and one who will not succumb to the slave power. After the adoption of the foregoing resolutions, William Barton', Channcey Reynolds and Preston Stevens, were appointed a correspondmg cou.Uy committee who shall be auihorized and are hereby insiructed fo obtain a suitable peison to leclnre on the subject of abolition within this District previous to ensning eleclion, and to cali a District Meeting if reques'ed (the nomination of Ilenry Bartow Esq., havin been made subject to alieration,) and to cali such meetings and to hold sucb corresponddnee as the further prosperity of the canse will seem to detnand. Vuted, That the minutes of this meeting embracing a copy of the resolutions be sent to the office oftlie Signal of Liberty and of the Ionia Journal for publication, if they feel disponed, thus to favor and oblige the friends of Liberty.
