- Tlmrlow Weed,who is now in Paris, gives tho account of the origin of the iire on bord the steam frigate Missouri : It originated from Turpentine, a case of which was broken and spilled by one of the crew. The Turpentine was observed leaking1 through some part of the ship in season to havesaved her ifit had been known that the vessel was ihus enc'angered. The eailor who broke the casp, accidentnlly, clid nol make the fact known, supposing that he could take care of it himself, and wholly unconscious of the disastrous con=equences. These facts. elicited by a Court of Inquirv, were communicoted to Mr. Lkdyard, our Charge d'Affairee, by Lt. Winslow, who goes home in the Boston Steamer with the official account of this very serious and mortifying calamity. Iit. Wisslow sa) s that the Missouri proved an excellent ?ea boat. Her niachinery worked well, and íhe was in every respect fullfilling1 the expectalions of the Government.The New Orleans Price Current states that the cxpoits ofLard during tlio year er.ding on the lst instant, nmount to 737,000 kegs, of this quantity 300,000 have been taken for European markets- chief ly for Frairic.
