The Governor has decided that three members of Congress were elected in this Statein September - Herrick, Dunlap, and Hanilin, from the lst, 2d and 6th Districts. Another election is ordcred Nov. 13, for the 3d, 4th, 5th, and 7th Districts. We observe that nine Liberty meetings are to be held in the Tliird District, previous to the election. They will be attended by Seth May, Esq., the Liberty candidate for Congress for that District, Eld. Whitney, and the Editor of the Liberty Standard. The subject of Slavery has often been before the large ecclesiastical bodies of Mainc. but we should surmise, with but little practical effect. However, the Standard takes right ground on this matter, as will be seen by the following extract. The great principie of non-fellowship with slaveholders and slaveholding churches, will soon prevail with all enlightenened christians; and when that time ai-rives slavery will be ns.near its end as was that ancient monster Athaliah when the order went. forth. "Haoc her without the rangcsl and whosoever followeth her let him be slain.;' TJie fact that the Congregational chuEches in Maine are holding fellowship with manstealers and oppressors, and with churches whï'ch trample thepline and Imvs of the christian church in the dust at the bidding of unregulated avarice and unbridled lust, will not long be distingaished, nor the forbidden relation continued. All eiforts at reproving or reclaiming slave-holding churches, unaccompanird hj the non-fellowship principie, will only serve to stave off the antislavery question for long years to come. This result bas followed one such effort by the general ' conference - an effort adopted by a large proportion for thai end, the "pacifijivg" eifects of which are not vet removed. - Besides, that measure, adoj)ted cxtensively by different denoruinations in thé frce states, has done iís work, has goné by. and rïëver ágain wi]] Üè révivëd. Sending letters to slavehóíders to be trodden imdcr foot, is not a very promising business. The Congressional vote of the Liberty paaty, in the Districts, is as follows: No. 1. - Sraart, 1.114 2. - Fcsaenden, 956 3.- May, 1,123 4. - Cone, 763 5. - M:Crillis, 880 6. - Shepherd, 1,180 7.- Pond, 333 Total, 6.349 Last year it was 2,998 .
