The friends of the SJavocracy in Illinois nnd Indiana seem determined to brinj; the contest betwee Liberty am) Slavery to an issue by incessant loga] euils upon abolitionists. It appears that for some reason Rev. Owe Lovejoy has for this time escaped the penalty of the Black Laws. The Western Citizen tays: "The trial of Rev. Owen Loyejoy, on the indictment for camforthig Nancy and Ag-nes. reponed to be slaves, beloning to 'some person in some State or Territory nnknown," carne offat the term of the Circuit Court held in Bureau Co., in the first and second weeks of the present month. Mr. Lovejoy was fully acquitted by the jury, of the charges; so he did not, after all, give the oíd lady a pair old shoes; or if he did, it was not proven . James H. Collins of this city, defended Mr. Lovejoy, hnd addressed the jury jn aspeech of seveu bours' Jength. The court house was crowded, and very many were present and heard a genuine abolition epeech. who never could have been induced to hear on any olber occasion. Great good has grown out of thfs trial-most eiFectually the Lord made the wrath of man to praise himIt ís probable that Ihi i the lns f the black indictments in Bureau Co. The principal tooi of the slaveholders, to whose instrunienaliiy this indictment was found, hns indirectly been the means of advancing the aboli'ion canse by tliis trial, more than hos boen done '■y anythlng else in Burenu Counly. We expect ere long to have a full report of Mr. Lovcjoy's trial for publication. . Afler the defeat in Bureau Co , the black law party could not be induced tP bring thecase of Messrs. Wright and Webster in Slarlc County to trial; but dismissed tlie suit. the past week, tvo jndictinente have been fonnd against different individuáis in Will Counly: eo wc moy expect another year Will County v:ll toke the banner again."
