Whertas, the time is appioaching when, aceording- ío a Jon established and well approved ctistom, observed b_v most of the Stntes of tliis Union, tlie people unite in rendering Thanksgiving und praise to the great Givcr of a!l good, and lïhereas, tliough sanctiocd by no legal authority, jt has been custoinary for tbcChief Exocutive officer ofthesevcral States to recommenci n particular day to be set apart for -sucli purpose, and Ji'hereas, it is a duty iiicumbent on p.il to render thanks to the Most High for Hi.-i i)ivine protectioa. Now, therefore, f, John S. Barr; Öovcrtior of the State of Micliigan, havo. thought proper to oppoint, aud by the ru5scms dopoint, Tkursday, the thirticlh day of JYótewber nexr, 113 a doy of public ThanksgivïL and Prayer; and I do here recommend to the peopleof this State to set apart and obserrc the same accordingly; thntthey asnemble on that day in their several places of public wor" ship, and witl) unked hcansrender unfeigned tliauks to the great Maker and of all ihings, for the nutnberless blessings vouchsafcd to us duriug the pust year; that Jie haapreserved our lives, maintained peace with in our borders, 6tayed the pestilence, averted Camino, rewarded the husban imen wiih abundant harvests, and proserved to ua inviolate our civil and religious j&stitutions, aud with deep bunjility, confeesing our sins,. give thanka fot all his numerous mercies, and hurably ask a con t nuance of Divine Ik vors..
