The returns of the election have been received, except one town. Briggs had 57,410 votes, Morton 53,172, Scatter! ing 8,870. Consequently there ia no choice of Gpvernor. The Senate will stand 6 Dcmocrats to 12 Whigs and of twenty-two there is no choice. Thei House stands 173 Whigs to 117 Democrats, and in ninely-threc towns there was no choice. Last year the House stood Whigs 176, Democrats 176; no choice, 56.Elections were held in four Congressional Districts, and a choice effocted in only one. Mr. Grinnel, Whig, is electod in the lOfh, to filfthe vacancy occasioned by the death of Mr. Burnell. The vote for Mr. Scattering has increased from two to three thousand. Five Liberty men are known to be elected to j the Legislatnre. The Emancipator says there is no choice in 110 towns.
