Our readers will recollect that in New Orleans sometime 3Ínce aman was arrested for distributing Bibles among Slaves, and he was excused on the ground of ignorance, and wanecl against such an illegal act in future. The American Bible Society has never been much disturbed in its deliberations by the consideration that Slavery is the greatest obstacle to the accomplisbment of its own work. Bul even this Society, in common with other National ones. demonstrates that it is afraid to speak out or act against the abomination. At a recent meeting in Cinciunati, the following resolution was introduced:"Whereas it has been sbown in the dissertation presented to this Convention and the resol utions adopted by it," that an obligntion is imposedby Heaven upon the believers in the Bible to furnish it freely to all the people, -Therefore Resolved, That all our auxiliaries located in slave-holding States, be urgently requested as far as practicable, to supply every personin their vicinities able to read, whether hond or f ree with a copy of the Holy Scriptures." The Society spent a day in discussing this resolution, and various amendments to it, and then rejected it, by a vote of 29 to 17. Th.us, says the Philanthropist, The American Bible Society, sitting in Cincinnati, in the year of our Lord 1843, refused;after a day's discussion,to urge or requcst its auxiliary societies in the slave Statos, to supply the two mili ion and a half destitute slaves in thcir vicinity, with the Bible.(C?0 The Jury n the case of Chorr, who was charged willi the murder of Dunn, Saturday evenmg brought in a verdict of 'Murder IV THE riR8T DEGREE."
