The Legislature commenced Iheir session with an effbrt to reduce' their own pay, in which laudable undertaking it is doubtful whether they will succeed. The Liberty Herald says: "We learn that the only business of importance the first week of the sessjon, was the passage of tf bill through theHouse, by a vote of 63 to 8, for feducing the pay of Members of the Legislatuf e to $2,00 per day. The subject was brought forward, we believe, by Mr. Duncan, of Licking; and in its progress was amended so as to allow $3,00 per day for 60 days, and $1,00 for every day a session should be protracted beyond that term. But this amendment does not appear to have been sustained by the House. If the bill passes the Senate, (as we apprehend it will not,) the Legislature will then be enabled to enter upon the general work of retrenchment under favorable auspices. The difficulty will be likely to be, that the Houses will disagree as to immaterial details, and then the parties will blame each other for the failure of the measure. It is due to the whigs to say, that the eight negatives in the House were all democrats, and that the only opposition to the bilt was from that side."
