Poetry: Virtue's Ascent
Sister, sister, shall we climb Virtue's patli, a steep sublime? Where undying1 flowers of love, as in tiie climes abovo? Sister, eister, sfinll we go, Where the heoling waters flow; Where are strenms of jy and penco, Wliose svreet inunnurs nevereease? White robed Purity is there, And Innocence, with flowing hair; There ia Truth, a child of Liglit, Whose glance dispels the hov'ring night There dove-eyed Peace, n hesvenly niaid DwelJs beneatli an olive shade; .And Pity there, wilh moistencd eye, Po'mts the Biifferer, to the sky. Social blissdoth tÃtere impart Pleasures tq tlie pure in heart; 5un-lit Joy is ever iliere, And Charily, a mniden fair. Cheering as the beams of day, Ssience shedá her heavenly ray, On the beings dweil ing there, Making loveliness rnoie fair. Happiness and culm ccnlenf, Bless for nye that brighl a.scent; Thitfjer, sitiler, let us hie - 'Tis the portal to tlie iky.
