- The Ynzoo(Miss Jbanner of the 6th uit., contams Ihe following strange paragraph: We understand from a friend jnst from New Orleans, who came passenger as far as VicksburL on the steamboat Queen of thë YVestlhnta most dreadful case of lynching occurred on board. It seems that one of the c;tbin passengere had his trunk stolen, and that one of tho three deck passengers was suspectcd of having cemtnitted the thefr, he was at once taken and a guard placed ovor hhn; during the night he jnmped overboard, and it is supposed ihat hé was drowned.-- When dnylight made lts appearance the other two deck passengers were tokea into the cabin, and it was determined that twelve of ihe passengers should award what pnnishmeet should be jnflicted on these two men; they determinad that thcy ehöuld receive tliirty nine lashes on the bare back. They were then 6tripped, anti the gentlenian who had lost the trunk was selected to carry imo exeontion the jiidgnient of these twelve dislrrntorested gentlemen. He procured a rope, and we are told cutand slashed the poor fellows until they fainted. They received this pnnisliment because thsy were merely snspected of being accomplicea of the one who hüd jumped overboard.
