Gov. Maltocks,of Vermont, has appoiníed Friday, the fiíth of April, as a day of Fasting and Prayer for the good people of that State; and says in his Proclamation, "Let us pray that God would put into the hearls of the American People to abolish sla very at once and j orever, and to become in all thingsthat happy people whose God is the Lord." Yet while Gov. Mattocks thus prays, and recomrncnds to the people to pray, he intends to vote, and recornménds to the people to vote, for a President, who says: "It is not true, and I rejoice that it is not true. thateither of the two great parttes in this country has any design oraim at abolition. I should deeply lamjsnt it ifit were true." t:I wouíd oppose any scheme of emancipation whatever,whether gradual or immediate."
