Messrs. Editors:- The First Congregational Church in Union City, adopted the following preamble and Resolutions, Feb. 15 1844, unanimously, and directed their clerk to present o copy of the same to the N. Y. Evangelist, and to some paper printed in tbis State for pubHcation. Whereas, ilie Christian Church is tha great instrumental ity, which God employs for uprootingsin and overturningsysiems ofiniquity in the world,- and whereas, we,beinga component part of that Church, and recognizingour solemn responsibility to God, desire to be guiltless with reference to our countrymen in bondage,thercfore Resolved, That we regard the system of slavery existing in these United States, as totallv sinful- ínvolving a most flagrant contempt of God, and the most atrocrous wrongs to man. Resolved, That no individual or church can Jonger innocently advocate or in any manner sustain this system, which is so directly at war with the great Jaw of love. and subversive of the fundamental principies of Christianity.Resolved, That we wil] neither admit to our pulpit, nor invite to our Communion, any man who vindicates the system, or who, sustains the relationof slaveholder and practically treats man as property. Resolved, That we deeply sympathize with our countrymen and brothers in bon dnge,and that we will not cease our prayers nor our earnest and faithful eiforts till the christian church, and our beloved landnrepurified from this system ofwickedness.
