We understandthat o most daring robbery, followed by nn amusing scène, occurred in the v'icinity of this village yeaterday. Mr. Whitney the oratorical lecturer, who has been in this city but a few days, walked out about a mile to bath at a spring bank; he stripped off his clothee, iaid them carefully on the bank, and went into the waier. In a few mornents he discovered a fellow taking charge of his clothes, and imrnediately jumped'out in pursuit of him; here a long chase of about a half mile ensued, but wisely the chnp finding his naked pur6uer gaining upon him, took to the briers which put an end to the chase. Mr. W. wended his way towards town, having no clothing save his shoes. He approached a house to teil hia sad story, when some lariies, seeing his condition, opened uponmm a vouey i ure oranua wintn buun pui him to fig"ht. Happilv,be found a pair of inexprersiblea hanging upon a fence, which he took forcible possee6ion of, and thus relieved from his sad predicament, he told liis adven ture and procured a sorvant to come lo town for his clothes. The worst of the story Ls, ihat Mr. W. had about $300 in his pockets. Ifthatchap wears Mr. W.'a cloths, we should not be surprised to hear of his givingectures on oratory, in a day or two. - Vtcksbnrg Whig. Education does not commence with the alphabet. It begins with a mother's look - with a father's nod of approbation, or a sign of reproof - with a sister's gentle pressure of the hand, or a brother's noble actof forbearance - with handfuls of flowers in the green and daisy meadows - with bird's nests admired, but not touched - with creeping ants, and almost imperceptible emmets - with humming bees and glass beehives - with pleasant walks in shady lanes - and with thoughts directed, in sweet and kindly tones and words, to nature, to beauty, to acts of benevolence, to deeds of virtue, and to the sense of all goodj to God himself.
