-Thedent of the Ñew York American gives the following noticc of a visit to this standing nrobltm in the natural history of the Holy Land. The gentlemen of the party delermin ated lo test the reported buoyancy of the wa tor by personal experience. They 6'ate, that where the water was five feet deep, they wcre so buoyed np that they could only touch the bottom wilh the poinis of their toes. Advnncing to where the water wns six inches deeper, heir feet were thrown n a horizontal position upon'the surface of the water. Tliey could not mainlain a perpendicular position without usinff Some efTort. They thenswam lo where the water wns extremely deep,, aud endeavored to sink, which ihey found imposible, even with some effort fo do. They could wulk in the water equally as vvell as on land. with their heads ent'rely above the surface. They found that they could sic and converse as ensy as on a divan. A strong breeze cnme on from.the eoulii, and with it a heavy swell . They described the sp nsnlion prod, iced by this ridinjr on the sea, without a vessel ora plank under thein, as very singular. Ono of ihem had nover befbre ventured bevond his dppih in watpr; while here he was enabled, without the least sense of danger, to go to any distance frem the land. They beenme convinced tliat whnt had been said respecting the greut specifie gravity anti buoyancy of the water of the Dead Sen is entirely correct.
