-The Rev. N. E.Johnson, pastor of a church in WestBloomÃield. N. J., lormerly oà this city, and Ãbr some yeans editor of tho New York Evangelist, has been found guilty by the presbytery of Niwaifc, N. J., of drunkenness. visiiing the worst part of the iheatre, nnd gross licewtionsness. Thé evidence beirig overwhelming, he picad gutlty, and was deposed frorn tho niinistry and cat irom the church without a formal trial- such being his ';hoice. We understnnd that his crimes hud been perpetrated througlt aseries ofyears, under circumetances of the most revoking depravity and hypocrisy. There are those who will mnko tina cxposure thc foundation of slurs upon leligion. or at leasi upon thedenomination to which Mr. J. bclonged. This is unjuat. Bad men will "steal the livery of Heaven to serve the devil in," and often evado all human detection for a long time. The general sensation which the disclosure of such a man's villany rasare to excite, is an involuntary tewimonial to the genernl purity of haractcr maimained by professtng Christians.- Tribune.
