Messrs. Editors: - Permit me to announce, through the medium of your paper, that I have dissolved my connection with the Methodist Protestant Church, and that I briefly assign, for so doing the folio w ing reasons; First. The exisfence of Slavery ín fhe Church, with no hope of its speedy remova}. Secondly. That this church holds ín its fellowship both ministers and members who advocate the righteoüsness of slavery. Thirdly. That the pro-slavery spirit is not confined to' the South, but is greatly difFused throughout the church at the North, which even a división by geographical lines would not be Hkely to efface - as will more fally appear by theannexed exposition of the course pursued by professed in their opposition t&the agitation of the subject of slavery,in either Church or State. The fallowing Resolutions vrere presented byme at a recent Quarterly Conference of the M. F. Chiircb on Jackson circuit for adoptionj to wit; Resolved, That ft ís the firm convictifHi of this Conference that the system of Slavery as it e.xists in these Un-ited States, s a dangerous violation of the pure principies oí the Gospel, - thai it deeply aíTects, not only the civil, bot also the religious condition cf Northern citizens - that it is the sou-ree of indolence, and destructive of industry, and, that it is sink of physieal, intellectuol, and moral abasement. Resolved, therefare-, That the time has fully arrived when the Church should cense from extending the hand of fellowship- communion, or connectiony ta those oppressors whose hands are deeply stained, and whose hearts are corrupted, by a practice so tile; but fhat it should fully express ifs detestation to fhe rile system; and "clear its skirtsry from the sin of tbosewho trame in human blood. Resolved, That all of the Gospel who practise such iniquity, or vrho justify, or ajpologize for, such a foultem, render themselves unworthy of the patronage and support of an enlightened community, and should be discountenanced by all the friends of humanity- Resolved, That we instruct our Delégate to the ensuing Annnal Conference, to solicit that body to take measures to cali a Special General Conference fot the purpose of affecting a speedy extirpa tion of Slavery from the Church, The first rssolution was discussed.- - Eider J. T. Pratt ifl the Chair, who declined to put the vote until himself and ojhers had occupied about two hours, or more, in discussing it, during which a preacher oí the M. P. Church represented Slavery as a Bible Institution! The vote being finally taken- there being a tie - it wasdecided in the negative by the casting vote of the President. The other resolutions were, without discusaion, ?ummaf ily disposed of in the negative, with the aid of the illegoivotes of two individuals, who were not mem bers of the Conference. No farther action was taken upon the subject, tls several of the members left the house- refuaingto remain any Ion ger. Finally. As there exists so great a similarity in the religious sentiments and disciplinary regulations of the Wesleyan Methodists and the anti-slavery portion of the Methodist Protestants, I deern it injudicious, and detrimental to the great interests of religión, any longer to continue a separation.
