The friends of Liberty in the Representativo District, consisting of the countjes of Cass and Yan Buren, met in eonvention in the Court House, in the villag-e of Cassopolis, August 17th, for the purpose oí nominating suitahle periöns to-be apported for that office. W.. S. Elliottwas callee! to tlie ehair und Philctus P. Perrv made Secretary. The friends from Van Buren recommended Jonathan A. Hincklky ns a suitable person for Representative from that County, whicli recummendation the convention confinned WiluamS. Elliott was chosen ns the candidate for the County of Cnss. The delegation from Cass thea procceded to fill the remainder of their county ticket, the result being as follows; Ciark Olmstead and Elij.ih Osborn, for Associate Jiidges. Wells Crumb, Judge of Probate, Philetus P. Perry, for Sheriff. Allen W. Davis,tv oierk, i'arker ü. Usborn for Register. Elihu Quick, Treasurer, Jordon Osborn for Surveyor, and William Jones nnd Joel East, for Coroners. Parker B. Osborn, AllonDavis nnd Wells Crumb were made a County Corresponding Commitlee. Tlie following resolutions were presented and unanimousiy adopted by the Convention: Resolved, That this convention deeply deplore the recent deatli of Luther F. Stevens, late Liberty candidaie for Lieutant Governor of ibis State, & tender to the widow and family our sincere svmpathy and condolence.Resolved, That this Convention with pleasure respond to the Liberty nominations for President, V ice President, Member of Congress and Senators, and that we willusenll honorable means tocarrv forward their eleetion. Messrs. Gurney and Bement being present, it was announced ihat the afternoon and evening would be occupied in speeches from those gentlemen. Accordingly at the hour of 2, the spacious court house was filled. and the audience attentively listened for two hours to a speech from Mr. Gurney. Dr. Beinent followed for one hour on the impropriety of the course pursued by our public officersin solemnlv swenring before high Heaven to support the constitution of the United States, and turning immediately and trampling it under their feet. The Doctor spoke withpower and effect for more tbnn two hours in the evenirtg, at the close of which the Convention adjourned Our cause is onward in this región, its growth is sluw, but, like the oedar, it is aíFected by no autumnal blasts, it wiil tovver aloft. and bathe its perennial verdure in the da ws of Heaven, when the Ask md Hickory shall have crumbled !o iheir moliier earth. The labors of Dr. Bemcnt have been of great service in this section of .couniry, almost all have become cohvinced of thft righteóusness of our cause, but wiih ('a.s.sius M. Clny, reserve to thomselves the right of once more bowing in llic temple of Bimmon. We bring the subject befó're the minds of the peopie, they are cónvinced,' and nearly on the pomt of yielding, when along comes a Poik tempest, or a Clay hurricane, thé little Spartan band are forgotten, and the liberty sentiments that may have been imbibed,are dashed upon this Scylla, oí4 drawn into íhat Charybdis. Notwithstanding, we shall doublé the vote of last f all, and plant seed that will anoilier bring forlh fruit añ hundred fold. ! The labors of ür.
