Fades from the west the farewell light Flung bacliward by the setting sun, And süence deepens as the night Steab With its solemn shadows on[ Galliërs the soft, refreshing desv On apringiiig grass and flowret sterns - Aadlo! the everlasting blue Is radiant with a thousand gemsl Not only doth the voiceful day Thy loving kiudness,iLord! proclaira - Bul night, with its sublime array Of worlds, doth magnify Thy name! Yea - whilo adering seraphim Before Thee bend the willing knee, From every atar a choral hymn Goes up unceasingly to Theel Day unto day doth uttcr speech, And night to night thy voice makes known; Through all the earth where thought niay reach, Is heard the glad and solemn tone; And worlds, beyond the iarthest star Whoso light hath reached the human eye. Catch the high anthem from afar Tuut rolls along imniensityl O, Holy Fathek! 'mid thecalm And stiilness of the evcning hour, . We, too, would lift our solemn psalm To praise Thy goodness and Thy power! For over us, as over all, Thy tender mercies still extend, Nor vainly shall thecoiurite cali On Thee,-our Father and our FriendI Kept by Thy goodness through the day, Thanksgivings to Thy name we pour - Night o'er us, with its stars, we pray Thy love to guard us evermore! In grief console - in gladness bless - Ia darkness, guide- in siclmess, cheer - Till iri the SAVtoun'srighleousness, Before Thy thror.e our souls appear!
