We cannot spe why the Democrats should rejoice over the last letter of Mr.Clay, except for the samereason, that the fox'wlio lost his tail, was desirous that al! should be in the same predicarnent witlj himself. This letter and ihe otlier lelters of Mr. Clay only demónstrate his position, to be identical with that of Mr. Polk, on the subject of slavery. So that the Democratie leaders have nothing to boast of - except that they have been more prompt and shameless in their subrnission to the exact ions of SlavehoJders, than the Whig-s. They are indeed more excusable than the YVhige, because their pretensiona are higber. They lay claim to the title of Demoorats - they say that their pariy is founded on the great principie, ofEquality of righta. and that Equal Justice is their motto. And yet they are the pledred supporters of Slavery - ihey stand by the fatrength of men whose vvholelife and creed are a mockery of Equality of Rights - they fight under a chieftuin, who keepB back the hire of forty laborers, is living down the vages-pnnciple, ond is pledged to carry out a measure expressly designed to open new regions for the benefit of men-sellers and menbuyers. And yet they are the Democracy! -
