A caeiinl visitor at tliis meetings on the eve ring of Monda y lapt, I was fnrcibly impressed by the moral effurt of the Young Mechanics of Ann Arbor. It was the dedication of their leisure nioments, - of their intellect and information to a cause vvhich lies at the base of all others. The spencers acquitted themselves with vcry great credit. Their matter was excellent, and their language good. The statistica of Temperance in Ann Arbor given by the first speaker shevved great industry, and afforded a vnliiabïe, though startling, commentary on the habits of the vil lage. To stay the course of ntemperance: to reclaim the fallen: to restore hnsband to wife: parent to ciiild :- to bulwark oör republic with the baitresses of inlelligence and morality: to encourage imJusiry: promote educationrand open to the outcast the door of re unioo with society anc1 his God, are Cbe rrobleand appropriate deeds of beings endowed vitli conscience and reason- ?uch was the laudable efïbrt of these Young Men. How infinitely superior such an evening's dedication, to one spent in frivolity or perhap.s vice! To a 60journer it gave a most indica: ion of Ann Arbor trndencies, and ciasued this eflbrt of her Mechanics, among the best he had witnessed in the enterprise. It is to be hopcd tliat tliese yoting men will persevere. Tliey strewed broadcast, many valuable trutbs. These feil on faüovv soil. - Be iheirs the care to watch their growth: to tend: to cukivate: and in due seneon they will gather on nbundant nnd honorable liarvest. It was gratifving to se&so mony ladies in attendance. It augura vvellfor the cause, and for themselves. Oo none does Ihe cause present such' clainw". The evils of intcmperance, which so affficts society, full with the6courge of the pestüence on the domestic circfe. Tlie moLher, the wife, thedaughter are its victims. Let their presence ever uphold the arms ol" laborera in their behalf.
