An nrticle on slavery by that elegant writer, Dr. Dies, is published in the Chnstian Citizen. In reference to discussing the right fuJnesa of íJavehol'ding', he eays: "I am of the une opinión with Mr. O'Connell, as expreseed in a epcech in London, on the subject of African Coloniza! ion. An Artioricmi gentleman called upon hirn that morfling, and he (Mr. O'C.) acked him with some anxiety whae part of America he carne from? to which the gentlemen replied, "From Boston.'1 Ho then then Bhook hands with him and congratulated him that that State had never been tamished with sluvery, but ndded thnt be should be sorry to be so contamina! ted with the touch of a man from Slates where siavery was contfnucd. The gentleman then eaid that he was no advoente of lavery, but if he (Mr. O'CJ would permit him, he would discosa the qiiestion with him. Mr. O Connell replied If a mar. were to propose to me a disciission on pickin pockets. I would turn him out of roy study, lest he should carry hts theory into praotice- -but I woiildassoon discuss thal quesliofi as the proprietyof negro plavery. The man who thoughthe could vindicate the pessession of 6ne human being by apother- the separation of a falher from his offipring, or the mother froa the iufunt fhe had reared was a man whom he could never anstver with word?, nor with blows - because the time for the atter had not yet arrived."
