Olivkt, Eaton County, June 2, 1840. $ ftlfissus. Euitors: - At a late meeting of the citizens of Ohvot, a. young meii's Anti slavery Society was formed, for the purpose of investigating nml disseminating the great principies and trutlis whicli pertain to human rightsand human freedom. Afler the organization of tlie bociety, by the adoption of o constitution in the usual forin, it was resolved by the society, that a cotnmittee of two bo nppointed to trontsruit to the Editora of the Sigal of Liberty ior puhlication, a brief statement of somo of the leading principies held by tho Society. In thus associatinfr ourselves together into an antislavery society, V0 do not lay claim to any new discovones in ethica) or politica] bcience, which wc wish to promulgato to the word. Uut we do assume and declare it to be our privilege und our duiy, to interest ourselves in the tempo! and eternal welfare of the wholc human Family. We understand tlic gieat aw of bcnevolcnceto demnnd of us the constant exorcise of practical, impartial, and sympathising good-will to all our neighbors of the human rnce, be they high or low, rich or poor, bond or frec. We believe it to beourdutyand our privilege, to embark )ogether, with all that we possces, in the great work of man's roderapüon froin sin and error, n all their forms. Wc rcad in the aspectid commotions of the moral nnd politieal eavens, cnoouraging indications of 1 lic final unipli of Iruth and right, ond of the ultimóte dvnncement of the human race to a slale of itellectual elcvaton and oral pnrit y, snel) tis ie u'orld, as yet, hns never expeneneed or ccn. Notwitht-tanding the oppressions ond boniinatio.is that are still dnne undcr the in, it secms tous, that the day-star of beter tilinga and botter daya isalrcady to be secn scending1 in the rast, and that thn harbingerp 'llie world's erna ncipat jon ond glory, nre nukiplying nround os. Wedeemit our duf and our privilege, to labor and pray that ie acceptuble yoar of the Lord whon every ■oke shall bc biuken, every bandloosenctl, and very captive released, and the whole cana be lied witli litrht, Üherty, and lovo, be specdiy ushered in. We belicve t!iat tbc angel laving the everlnsting gospel to preacli, ught to be pcrmiüed to proclaim its glad tiingp, upon every mountnin top nnd in every alley if tfie whole world, until every eon and aughter of Adam's race bas heard the joyul sound, etnbraced, anu is fice - fren physlally, to walk crect in the presence of bis Maier, lord of tits own perdón and po'vers- free ntellectually, to traverse the widc and glowng fields of truth, far os human thought can ange- fre morally to obey without rèstrainl ie mjuilctioris ofhis own reason, and toassoiate nni hixurinte with God, and all the poodnd lnly, in well doing, as the sacred " ors of the divine Spirit, nnd the voice r f conscience shall díctate. Cut tve expect s ot tliis glorious con&ummntion without the se of appropriate mcans. We belicve that 0 lic worM's rcdemptiüti is, undcr God, a work o be done by human agency. We expect hal tlic pinnnciiialion of tlie slnve is to be efected by the use of appropriate mwins - the prevalezca of sound gospel principies in regard to ekvery nnd h'iman rights, with ac'.ion corrcspondinjjT thereto. 1 We moet hcartily af-tcnt to, and embrace 1 he doctrine, ihat all men are bom free and [ pqiinl, endowed with ccrtniii inalienable rightf, i whirh nrc truly nnd bonn-fide innlientible, ond ; which he lias no riglit to take from, or yield ( to, anothcr. üul we tmbrace lilis chnngeless irinci[i!e of trulh, not becanseour fathers , claimed it, ana many great an.l good men Imve s.inctioncd it, but bccause it is foumled in nat ural nnd moml jnslico, and is eternal trulh. - ' II is ba?ed m Gud's innnüiuble ronstitution of thnig?, and must bo trui: uhile God is God and mnnisman. We regard slavcry universally, i as a direct violation ot' this principie, and consrquontly n palable violuli n of bolh nntural a uc divine l;iw. We consider American Slavery, as one of the pros-sest and rnost nggravated forms of violalion of this great moral prcfnpt th.'il tbc world lias over witnessed. Il violetos every rule of eqni'y, trainpleá upon rvery iioly nii' itiüii, sunlcrs cvery sacreJ bond, dpstrovs every tender on.otion oí' tlie henrt, atmihil.iie-r cvmy genorons and honoral)le impulso, bliinU; thf inornl s--nse and scars lbo C(uscionco, iraiipgrosses cvery lihtcoiiá Iriw. human, moral, uud divino, torturoá the body, lacérales lbo heart, rends the soid, and éonfigns multitudes to the perditioi) of the demned. It too late to drny its, chnricto, or pnlliate its gnilt. lt can no jonper be, mollified with engnred nan.es, orFtnothered bencnlli the tissues of elh'eal abstract ion?. - lts hornd prüriicaüty stnnds rcvei)led as a Ihame to the Ameiicéfi people, nnd a distrrace lo lummnity. As Ftich we int end to tioat it, aid use all thfi riylitlul inoans which li"aen bas pl.iocd wilhui our icich, for jtu cveilasting overihrow. We believe il is the duty of every philunthropist and Christiap. in a'! suitable vvnjs, to discountcnancc ibis horrid syslcm of wrong, and on all proper occasions, fogive it bis un((ialified reprobation. We bohove that the 6lnve, as a fellow mon and brolher, I ns claims upon the bcncvolence, and good-samaritan sympalhies of the christinn world, which cannever be cancelled, until tiie last yoke is broken, and the last chain eundered. We believe he hns claims upon us as individuals and as a people; theiefore ve have associatcd oursclvcs togetlier, to do what in u liee, for his welfare.
