On Wednesday evening lasf, some ex s ponent of the popular hatred of abolition n ism in this city, by his works gave evi dence of his faith, and bedaubed the Free 'm man sign with a 'villainous compound' o ■ lampblack, &c. As soon as we are abl . we shall replace it with a new one- un j til then those who wish to find our office ! must look for the black sign. The weather during the past week, has been quite cool, with abundance of rain. We continue toreceive favorable accounts of the appearance of the Wheat, and the probability isgaining every day that the erop will be fully an average one, or more. The Wool market displays no activity. Few sales have been made, and those at j I reduced prices. Buyers are now unwilling to pay more than 25 cents ior good Jota. The Eastern Flour market has of late exhibited a slight lendency to a riso, in consequence of the prospect of a short erop of Wheat in Ohio. But n most of the Wheat growing States, the prospects are favorable. The indications now are, that in the whole district of country where Wheat is raised for exportation, the erop ' will be an average one. ' There is nothing doing in Wheat here.
