The Liberty pnrty isoften assailed with the object ion - 'There is no slnvery ín Vermont, and none that can be reached by State action; what needthen oí aState orgnnization? what need of ditïTinct candidates for State ofïicers, and siich eflbrts to elect them?' A word in your ears, gentlemen. Mr. Whig: have you n 'protective tnriiF' in Vermont? a distribution bilí? ana tional currency? Or can you secure them by State action? Why, then, a distinct organizntion, and such slrenuous efforts to retain your ascendency? Mr. Democral: have yoü a national bank todestroy, and a subtreasury to establish, in Vermom? a 'judicious tarifF' tosupport? an 'area oïfreedonV toenlarge by the 'reannexation' of an immense sïaaeholding territory? Or can you directly affect these questions b}' State aclion?-- Why, then a State ticket and such strenuous effbrtsj year after yearj to elect il? Why! you will reply, we want to keep our party in drill for nn engagement on the nalional battle-field; and especially, we want the influence of ihe State in favor of our peculiar doctrines. Just so with the Liberty pni'ty. Out of your own mouths are you condemed. We do not expoct to destroy American elavery by the direct action of our State Legislature, but we do want the combined influence of every man, woman and child in the State in favor of the immediate des-truction of that 'abcmination which maketh desolate.' Admitting, then, thatour principies and objeets are no more worlhy of support than those of the other parties, there is the same propriefy n our sustaining a distinct State organization as in their case; but when we compore the great doctrine of the Universal Equnlity and common brotherhood of man, his 'inalienable right to hfe, liberty. and the pursuit of hnppiness,' wliich constitutes the touch-stone of our organization, with those sordid and selfish considerations that form thealpha andomegi of whig nnd democratie practices, we can not but exclnim, in the language of th Saviour, when comparing the principl of huinanily with that of seljishncss - "How much then is a MAN better thna SHEEP!"- Groen Mountain Free man. The Editor of the Monroe Ga zette, a new Whig paper, tells us tha during the three months of his editoria career, the Locos have denominated hin ':a liar, a lying Whig, a nutmeg peddler a sophomore, a green horn, a gawky, í sap head, the tooi of a Whig clique, ai infantile philosopher, a yankee, a sill) youih, a fooi, a knave, a barking puppy a New York clerk, a jackass, a scamp an idiot, a viper and a hypocrite.' These eenterces are adíoitly quoted so as te convey the impression that they are both edi loria] artides. Whereas the íirst pararrniph was in a communication to this paper, and thr other was from a paper favorably quoted las summer by the Advertiser, called the "Liberalor.:' Por oor own part, we are not dispo sed to quarrel with eilher position.
