The Rev. Mr. Jones, who has somewhat signalized himself ns a missionary among the slaves, publishes a report of his labors in the Christian Index, Georgia, in which occurs the following passage. He relates the fact ís illuslrative of the character of Mr. Jones and his teaching. "Allow me to relate a fact which occurred the spring of this year, illustrativo of the character and knowledge of the negroes at tliis time. After dismission, there Was no smali stir among them: some solemniy declared 'that there was no such epistle in the Bihle;' others, 'thnt it was not the gospel;' others, 'that I preached to please themasters;' others, 'that they did nol cnre if they ever heard me preach again.'
