This body met at Juckson, Sept. 17. The nomber of membere, as appeare by the balota, wa9 68. At the first balloting, S'ephen Vickery had 24 votes, J. E. Cbapün, 17, J. R. Williams, 10, H. W. Taylor, 7. These were ïll western men. Detroit did not seem to lieat all ambitious of honors on this occasion. On the 4th balloüng, Vickery had 40 votes, ind J. E. Cliaplain. n Methodist minister of White Pigeon, LL. Whereupon Mr. Vick?ry wa9 declared the candidate. The reeolutions go for the old Whiff principes generally: and specially are enutr.erated he present Tariff4, appropriation3 for harbors, listribution of the proceeda of the Public nnds, and oppositioii to the anncxation of Pexap. Not a word is said nbout "regulaing the currenry,' by a National Bank or othjrwise. nor providing for the people n "currency of uniform value tbroughout the nation." Do the Whigs really meon to give up the Bnnk as an "anlujuatect1 notion? So mnch for Old VVhiggery. Thfcn cornos a batch of resolutions to please the young VVhigs advocating a sale of the Public Woiks - a reduction of taxes and expnditures - & redi:ction of the pay of members of the Legislature to $,00 for 30 days, and $1,00 thereafter - of the salary of the Governor to $1,000 and of the Secretary of State to &G00 - R thorough■efbrm of the Judiciary System - the election )f Representalives by 6ingle districts - the tbohtion of the offices of State Geologist 8nd State TopOijrapher-aagainst allowing1 doublé oay to the presiding officers of the Legislanre, and for a reform respectirig slation - iry. But not a pyllable ld said ebout the Éanks if the State, pst, present, or future. That seem9 to be to the VVhigs just at present, what Shvery is to the Southerners - (ia very delicate (ufstiort.'' We like to see the peo]j!e of all partiés discussing1 their local as well as general íntereste, inviett of a better and more econorn ical administraron of tlie Government. It is much I etler business than endeavoring1 to osascertain whether Polk's grandfnther was a British tory, or whether jfcbn Dav9 did actually thrnw up hi hat for jy when ho heard of the British succosses against the American arms.
