Montoinery, 49 56 Butler, 108 118 Washington, 296 fJÖO .Vereer, 700 750 Indiana, 80 &6Í Green, 18 ion Weslmorcland, 71 187 Alleghany, 404 460 Cleáter, 73 8Í Philadelpbia city, 227 LK)1 In otlier counties where there are but a few Liberty voters, the nombcr of votes has mcread. Yet there was notliing tbis year to cali out n Ai 11 vote, as neither Governor nor Member8 of Congre6s were lo be cFectcd. "In the new Constitution of Texas, ft is proposed to incorpórate this navel feature, that each citizen of the new State, sliall hold his farm, of a certain size, free from all claims and legal procesa. Of course, i f a man wants credit ii must be had on some other basis than the ands ho owns. Sucb a provisión, it ís thought, will have a good efFeet by the sf rong inducements il holds out to every citizen to bocome interested in the soiL- Washington Patriot. A provisión has been suggested in this State on a similar principie. Instead of exempting so many hogs, sheep, cows, beds, books, stoves, Sc. from execution it has been proposed that each person who has ability enough to acquire and keep itshall hava a definite amount, say $500 worth, of property exempted, in real estáte, or in nny thing he shall choose. In this way it is thought by some that a very strong indücement to industry would be held out to the poorer classes to endeavor to acquire a comfortoble home, which shoald be free from all uiolestation Some members of the Legislature of 1842 were favorable to this pro.position, as highly beneficia!, but were unwilling to advocate it for fear of its unpopularity. It was a much better proposal than that made by some of them to exempt forty "acres of land from process for debts. The suggestion is an important one, and worthy of consideraUoru
