The American people, having now fairly entered on a career of tearitorial aggrandizement, will doubtless pursue it with the utmost ardor, and all its hazards. The vote for the admission of Texas had scarcely been announced, when Mr. Levy, one of the Florida senators, offered the following resolution. which under the rules of that body lies over one day: - Resolved, That, in the opinion of the Senate, it is advisable for the President to open negotiations with the government of Spain for the cession to the United States of the Island of Cuba - the inhabitants of said island consenting thereto.
