-I have been exnminingf nnew machine for sewing. whicfj lias rcccnlly been invented and constructcd by an irrgëniblrs rnechanic of Cambridge. So far as lam in[brmeu on the subject, thisis the first nttempt :o construct n machine of the kind, and t ap - pears to me to bo na em'mently successful Dne. The machine is very compact, and not occupyin a spacfi of more tlian about six nclies cacli way. It puis witli so much ease, tliot 1 should suppose one person miglit ensily opérate twenty or thirty of them, ond the work is done in a most thorongh tnanncr. Bolh sides of the eeam look alike, oppenriu? to be beautifully stitchcd, ond tbc scam is closer nnd more uniform than when sevved by hand. It wil] sew straight or curvcd pcams witn cqual facilily, aiid sorapidly that it takes bul two minutes to sew the whole length of the outside scam of a pair of n?en's pantaloons. It sets 400slitches a minute with perfect caso, and the proprictor lliinks thcre is rto difficulty in sewing seven lui nü red stilches o minute. - The Ihread is less worn by thisprocess ll:an by hand fcewinjf, rnl rttain c(n=cfjncnt]y mote of lts stronstlj. The pimplicity of tlio coi)?1ruc tion of this macliine.nnl the nccuracj-, rapiditv and perfection of its operation, will place it in the same rank witli the card macliino, 'Jic stiaw braider, the pin machines, and the coach lace loom - machines which neveref.l to oommand the admiration of cvery intellipent
