Ist, 1846, performed an operationwith the powers of Animal Magnetisrn, which seerned to test the trutb of tho science, and establish bevond a doubt, the Science. The circurnstancea ore as follows.- Prof. Lewis was conversing witli several gentlemen upon the science when heobserved that he could magnoiise persons ut most any distance, which observation oneof the gentlemen present rather que, tioned and doubted. Prof. Lewis imme. dia'tëly proposed an experiment which should estabïish bevond a doubt his assortion - which experiment was innnedialaly performed. It was proposed thnt he should put in a magnetic sleep, a lady who resided ono raila disiant trom the gentleman who entertained him. A lady whom he nevar saw, and knew nothing respeciing her situation, except thal she uas unwell. - All nocessary arrangements respectine the time of comniencenient, duration and cessation of the sleep being arranged, twoot the gentlemen present proceeded tothe house of the lady, who they found hnd retired becrutse of her il'ness. But on hearing the gentlemen relate the object oftheir visit, she readily arose and submittcd to ihe operation, believing that it svotild relieve her of the pams, which sh told the gentlemen were then torturïng. her.
