Not withstnnding the proposition of Mr. Wilmot expresses the ieeüngs of tho greatbady of the northern penple, 4od has been snnctioned hy the Legisiatures of the grent states ofOhio, Pennsylvnnia nnd New York, it is considered very doubtfu] whether h will even pass the House. - Mr. Greely oflhe Tribune, has boen at Washington lately, nnd clase inquirid nto the ma'tor, and frnrs that a defectioa of quiten numborof the Northern Dtfmccrotic mernbers willtake place. Mr. Polk has the appointment of some 500 officers in ten new regiments bsides other places of honor nnd profil, and members unpopular at home, whose terms are just expiring and who have no hopO of re-election,may be strongly tempted by Executive offers. JBut Mr. G. representa that the loading Wright and Vnn Buren members of Congress will be firm in support of the Proviso, as a permanent stand of the Northern Democracy. But the Slavcholders have a majority of two in theSenate; and even if it should pass there, it might be nullified by a Presiden- tial veto. But we will not speculate a hout the result, as we shall soon b p prised of it.
