Afier four day's discussion, this body adopied the following as tlieir final exposition on slavery, with only one dissenting voice : "That while llio Evangelical AlliancR admiis into its bosom sucl) persons only as are respectable members of Evangélica! churches, we are nevprtheloss persmdcd that (he great object of the Association, the promotion of a largor Christian unión., may be furthcred by a frank expression of our senliments mi the subject of Slavery. We therefore declaro flor deep, unajiefable npposiiion to this stiipeivKius e vil ,nnd we iiold tto be'.he duty of nll men ly all wise nnd Christian ineans to serk ls en'.ire extirpation nnd rsmova] from the land. Siiil the one ob' jfictof ho Allianco shnll be stpadily kept in view, which is the promotion of Christian union and brotherly love." A great resiilt tobe attained by so long a discussion ! These clergymen have re ally discovered tliat Slavery is an "evil :" but whether a moral, social, politieal or physical one, they have not told ns. Probably they lrnve not yet advanced far enough to nscertain. But into this Alliance those who perpetúate and bring upon their countrymen this "topsndous evil," are duly received with full fellowship : sucli men as James K. Polk, Flenry Clny, onn C. Calhoun, &c. : all of ihem repued to be "respectable members of Evangelical Churches." Hope II. Slat ter, the 3altimore s'ave trader, can be received 'into the bosom" of this Alliance ' for lie promotion of Christinn union and jrotherly love" by merelv uniting with n "EvnngelicaV church, and yet purue hts devilish business from yeai to 'ear ! Truly the Alliance wil] have a hance to labor for "the increase of holiess" among itj own members. The nffair exciled but litile interest in ew York, only about 150 persons, inluding spectators, being present. On a motion to print the names of the members, )r. Cox objected. He was "ashamed of be paucitv of their nurabefs, and sorry o see so little Christian spirit."
