The Washington correspondent of the New York Commercial Advertiser says: "Much has been dono of late, towards the elcction of Gen. Taylor a the next President. Senator Di.xon H. Lewis, vvho is now here, and will leave to-morrow for Wes' Point, says, "I undeis'and ihnt it is all seltled- That General Taylor has come into the views of the Souili, and will be the Southern candidate. - The South - the Calhoun South, as 1 have learned - are unaniinous for Gen. Taylor. Mr. Cameron has undertaken to secure Pennsylvania fijr him, and will stump it through the State, to effe'-t the object. Kenturlty is secure for him, as it is said. In Virginia, eleven newspapers have come out for Taylor. In Ohio, the McLean men have declared for him, in preference to and except McLean.' "
