A largo and rcspectnble mceling was convened n Napoleon on the 13th inst, to listen to nn Antislavery addreaa from Mr. S. T. Creighton. 'i'he meeting was organizad by apiointing Rcv.C. II. Swain and Rev. E. Rnmery, Moderator., and R. B. Rexford, Secretary. As Mr. Creighton liad h el d a series of meetings in tilia place, during which much discussion was liad upen the subject of Ameiican Slavery and slaveliolding religión, it was deemed advisable to appoint a Committee lo draCl Resolutions expresivo of the sen.se of the meeting. - R. B. Rexford, Aloses Rumcry, and Harvey Austin wcre appointed commiltee on resolutions. Mr. Creighton entertained the meeting with an invincible argument that all slaveholding religión was incompatible with the prcept and spirit of the gospel, after which the commiltee on re3olutiom, reported the ibllowing wliich were unanimously adopted. lst. Resolved, That in the opinión of this meeting, every public speaker is entitled to the privilege of making appointmenls for the discussion of all proper subjects ; and has an unquestionable ri'ght to investígate all matter?, social, civil, and religious, which lie may regard as having a baneful or injurious influence upon society ; and that n due respect for Ihe righls and priveloges of individual?, as well as the harmony and good order of society,should impose upon every perton, a conscious obligation, not to in] vade the rights of any portion of tLe community, who may be disposed to givc audience to such discussion or investigation. 2d. Resolced, That the politica!, mor a', or religious diameter of eveiy asso ciation of persons, also the influence of such associations upon society, either for good o r evil, nrn proper subjec'.s to be discussed, by any person, in any cornnunity ; and that a dignifieJ public sentirifeni in this enlightened nation, ought to pro.ve a sufficient protection to tiierit and virtne ; whilo it should effectually rpbuke the vicious, and di vest them of influence upon societVi 3(1. Resolved, That in view of wbat has transpireü in th's place, we feel irrir pelled by a sense of duty to Mr. S. T. Creighton, to publicly affirrrsj that his lectures in this place have been charactérized by a proper and courteous respset for the righle and fecliugs of his auditors ; and that in his discussion of the subject of American Slaverv, he ha? evinced no other purpose or design, Ihan to produce a just abhorence of iIip inexcusable sin of slavery, both in Church ar.d in State, by presenting to the public a history of well auihonticated facts. ith. Resolved, That we dceply regret, that a smal] portion of this community, some of whom profess to be gcvcrned by a higb sense of moral ar.d religious d'ity, have wantunly violated the principies of common decenry, l.y intruding themselves upon the meetings under a pi-elenee of meeling Mr. Creighton in discussLn, and tlien making ah ungentlemanly uttack upon him and nis audience, by charging ttiem with infidelity, for denounoing slavcholders nnd slavêhokiin-g religión ; by annoying the audience with tlieir unparalleled personal abuse, without even a passing noiico of the facts and arguments whicli Mr. Creighton adduced in support of his proposition. 5A.
