Thi.-s body mei at Jackaon Sejt. 15. - Eighty three deleg.-ues wcre present, re - rwwming ouly 19 countips. The first ballot üliowed tl. e cui.test dr caodidate Cor Governnr lo be betrtenn VV'codbridge, ICdmunds, ai.d J. R. VVilüiim?. Añera little tlie nnma of Vil]inin% was withtlrawn, upoii whicti Kdmtinds went nliead, and was derlni-pd llie nomine?. It does not tppeor uhnt was the oljject ofcrowi1iug ulicaJ Gov. Woodbridge tor a nominution, unlcss it wore tu biing him up with the view ibot l:e would be defeated in the Convention, and thus run liim ofF the courso fpr the future. We surmisp that th is was the nbject of some : for we know some leoding Wbigs have been restive some time ander the government ol Senator V . and thive dr four more conservativo compeers of dis, and they wou ld glodl}1 gel Ihem out of tl. e way, aiid give the parly in the Siale a chance to make progiess. A regular Wliig creed was rslnblished and promu'gnted by the Convention, going for Protectioiijllarbor lmprovemeotS, Economy, Banks in Michigan, election of Staie officeis generally, Single Uistricts, &e. On thf Kpphrt of the ar the Whig I Creed reads thus : 4tli. While we Lelieve ihe present war with Mexico to be the result of the unconstitutional action of the Executive, ami tliaï it mighl, with ordinai-y prudence and statesmanship, have been avoided, we are n favor of pincing in the hands of our government such ineans as are necessary to the condición of a just and honorable peace, nnd we rejoice that t lias illustrated the military prowess of our country by deeds of noble daring, and exhibitionsof bravery, foriitude, nnuskill, wbich have cfownei] theofficers engnged in it with unperLihable renown. This resolution, it will be scen, asserts thrce things : that the war n ight have been avoided; that the Whigs rpjoice in its success ; ami that they are for giving 'o the Government "such means as are necessary to Ihe ■■.ondusi.on of a just and honorable peace." This last phraseology we suppose is dcsignedly ambiguous. - Huw much is necessary ? - threra millions to buy a ppace with, or a hundred mülions to conquer one, as heretofore propossd by the administration ? Or are the Whigs disposed to take the ground of the Advertiser, and vole the President all the men and money he wants to carry on the War t We presume this last exposilion should be considored t!io true one : for very few of the Whigs dare, like Torn Corwin, to come out operily and consistenily agninst the War. They fear the ippellation '-.f Old Federalist!" Tlie Creed on the Shvery Ques tion we sholl nolio next week.
