Last Thursday, two Slave-catchers visiled our citv, and in a few minutes creat' ed a great excuement, by seizing ft colo:ed man as an alleged fugilive shive from Covington, Kentucky. They were father and pon. The old gentleman, named Reben P#rry, had wliat purported to be a power of attorney from Levi F. Dongherty, of Covington, Kentucky, to bring back a lave nanied Kit, 23 or 24 years oíd, 5 feet 10 inches high, hlack skin, who esc-aped in February, 184G. These men, without any proce-s or legal auihority, after liaving secured tlje advice of one Wilbur, and the services of one Kmerick, a constable, seizfd a colored man, wliom they allegad was tho said fugilive, and drngged him down stair-s into the street. As the crowd begnn to gather, they took llie coloreJ man into Wilbur's office. Counsel for ihe colored man soon arrived, and demanded the authorilyliy which they detained him. The power of attorney was produc d, as their auihoritv. In the mean tme, the office, and the stairs leading to it, were filled with the crowd. The colored man wulked towards the door, at which, the young man took liold of him to lead liim back, but, being handled roughly. he loosed his h"ld and re! i red. The crowd oponed on each side, thectlored man ltisurely walked out ihe crowd closed. The colored mnn's attorney began mnking out wrils to arrest tho slave-calchers for assault a'.id battery and false imprisonment ; bul, the ' moment the crowd left the room and shut i tire door, they managed in üome way to get out of the back window of the secorid i story, and were conveyed, by Ihe said constable, with all ppeed, out of town. - The sheriff pursued, but they contrived to elude hirn. They were last seen about ten rnUcs from the city, flying, Jehu-like.
